Our new Food Recovery program has dramatically increased W.E.G.C.S.S.’ capacity to receive large food donations from all sources. These are processed into prepared foods to be shared back into the community through the Food Bank and our other food programs.

We often receive fresh produce, meats, eggs and flour as donations, which the Food Recovery program turns into soups, stews, baked goods, side dishes and seasonal treats. Our menu is very seasonal and is inspired and fuelled according to the goods donated.

Donors include locals with gardens, farmers in the Valley, retailers in Nelson and the Valley, and corporate donors. With our new walk-in cooler and freezer, plus the staff and volunteers of Food Recovery, we can now say yes to most donations. This is an exciting development at WEGCSS and we are grateful to all the donors, the CBT and Food Banks BC for making it possible.
