Job Title: Youth Centre Senior

Reports to: Executive Director & Slocan Valley Youth Network Coordinator

Role: Coordinate and implement programming for the Slocan Valley Youth Centre

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Develop, plan, and implement programming related to Youth’s interests
  • Facilitate life and social skills development (eg: prosocial behavior, communication and life skills), employability enhancement and self-esteem development for youth 
  • Assist youth with life issues and provide support referrals and system navigation as necessary 
  • Identify and support young persons who are having serious social problems and work with them on useful skills through mentoring, teachable moments and activities   
  • Attend all youth centre staff meetings 
  • Guide and mentor junior staff to ensure quality of work
  • It is the responsibility of the Senior to ensure all paperwork is filled out properly, that the daily procedures are completed, and that the YC and building are locked properly
  • Ensure tabulation of attendance, cash out, and complete nightly report
  • To respond to general inquiries regarding Slocan Valley Youth Centre, and to share in the work of maintaining a responsive and inclusive community centre
  • Be familiar with and implement W.E.Graham Community Service Society’s (Slocan Valley Youth Network) policies, procedures and practices
  • Perform other related duties when required and approved by the Slocan Valley Youth Network Coordinator or Executive Director 
  • Communicate through phone or email with other related staff to develop and organize programming
  • Plan and implement fundraisers as directed by SV Youth Network Coordinator.
  • Ensure the safety of youth and integrity of grounds by doing 15 minute grounds checks around the WEGCSS building, the skate park and the school.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum two years’ experience in community development work, outreach work, group work, and experience working with youth and at risk youth.
  • Preference to candidates with Standard First Aid and Food Safe
  • Criminal Record Check mandatory
  • Must be 30+ to apply

Hours of Work:

  • 4 hours per week

One Youth Centre shift per weekend

  • $16.20 per hour
